Going under the knife

Starting in 2008, my husband Gene went under the knife for the first time for a back surgery. August 2010, was the last operation he had done on this area. He had a total of four surgeries in less than 3 years.

The first three surgeries were fusions and the last surgery was to remove some hardware from his back. After much probing, the surgeon figured out that some of the instruments they had embedded into his body to help him were actually causing him much discomfort and pain. Say hello to the removed hardware.

21 pieces of metal in my very own Bionic Man. The immediate relief he felt after surgery was a huge blessing and he was able to function in everyday life with a little more ease.

As I was looking for something this morning, I came across the bag full of screws and rods that the recovery nurse had given to Gene upon his request. He wanted to see what was causing him such crippling pain.

This made me think about what we keep inside of us and don’t allow God to touch. The things we can’t see. Things from our childhood or adulthood that the memory of it causes us much discomfort, tears and pain that at times disables us.

Until we allow the Great Physician to get to those deep places within us, we will never experience complete healing. Sometimes the thing that is causing us turmoil is little, like the small circle things in the picture above or sometimes they’re big like the long rods that measure a little over 4 inches that were under Gene’s flesh.

Whatever it is, I encourage you to allow the Head Surgeon, the Chief Shepherd, the Almighty God, Who wants to free you from your pain, permission to do some surgery on your heart. You will be amazed at the freedom you’ll feel when you allow Him to do what He does best…heal and restore. And whatever He removes just may be the instruments He turns around to use for good and to draw others to His throne room.

Mark 5:34                                                                                                                                             He said to her,Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”

My daughter had to have hardware removed as well…it was needed in the beginning and then it was harmful. Strange. I love your analogy though – so appropriate. blessings, marlene
