Have you ever been shopping in a store and all of a sudden thought, “Oh my word, how did I get here?” Never, because we intentionally took ourselves there or rode with someone else to the store.
That’s the same thing with sin when we decide to put ourselves into a pit. We don’t just end up walking away from God and doing something He is completely against. We think it through first, then eventually our thoughts become our regretted actions. I have a saying on my bathroom wall that says:
Thoughts become words Words become actions Actions become character Character becomes everything.
When I think back on the times in my life that I have found myself in a seat of shame wondering, “How did I get here?”, there is no one to blame but myself. I nurtured my thoughts into growth over a period of time.
When I had my affair years ago, I was part of my church youth group team. Every week I would help minister to the teenagers of our church. I was passionate about being a youth sponsor, but I allowed someone from my past to take a place in my life he had no right to take. I went from being an on-fire-for-God youth sponsor, to a secretive cheating wife who quit the youth team.
In Galatians 5:7-8, Paul writes in his letter to the Galatians:
You were running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth? That kind of persuasion does not come from the One who calls you.
When we find ourselves going from living a life seeking Jesus to harboring secrets, we need to take a look at what triggered us to veer off of the narrow path.
When we allow Satan’s persuasive lies to overtake the truth of God, we will run in the wrong direction. (Click here to tweet this now)
Don’t allow Satan to cut in on you. Do whatever it takes to stay the course and run this race well with Jesus.
Blessings,
